We’re live at today’s Topping Out ceremony where one of the final steel beams will be placed for the Salt Lake City International Airport’s new terminal. This three-level terminal is part of the Airport Redevelopment Program — a complete rebuild of the airport — which will also feature two linear concourses, and elevated roadway with different levels for passenger drop-off and pick-up, and a new parking garage twice the size of the current one. The first phase of The New SLC is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020. No local taxpayer dollars are being used for this project.
The first of 29 escalators for phase one of The New SLC has been installed. The escalator is located in the new central Terminal, past the security checkpoint. Stone column installation on the North Concourse of The New SLC began this week. Austin Okland will install 2,920 stone columns to stabilize the ground before placing 1,000 plus composite piles. The vibrating tip of each probe is hand made. Each individual mechanic crafts the tip to create their own unique signature using a weld pattern. The mechanic who crafted this probe is from Seattle and loves to...you guessed it... salmon fish.
