The first of two Liebherr LR1600 cranes has been assembled on the construction site at the SLC International Airport to build the three-level terminal for The New SLC. The crane, which will be used for steel erection, weighs close to 700,000 lbs. This is the tallest crane onsite, with 118 ft. of main boom and 117 ft. of luffing jib, giving the crane close to 300 ft. of total height. The crane is configured to lift a maximum of 256,000 lbs., though crews plan on the largest lift being about 60,000 lbs. A special 9/11 decal on the crane reminds us to never forget.

Passengers’ furry, four-legged friends are flying more than ever and airports are doing their part by becoming more pet friendly. Airports accommodate pet passengers by designating areas as animal relief stations. SLC International Airport has five animal relief stations located in and around the airport. Three of the stations are located pre-security and two are accessible behind the TSA security checkpoints. Click here for details: http://bit.ly/2vSuiJ2

The Salt Lake City Dept. of Airports partnered with Delta Air Lines and Families for Autism and Asperger’s Standing Together (F.A.A.S.T.) to host Taking Flight for Autism. The program orients children to an airport environment and helps them become more comfortable when traveling by air. Airport and airline employees demonstrate how to check-in, go through security screening and board an aircraft, while a flight crew shows the children what they can expect prior to and during a flight. http://www.deseretne...port-stress.html

Construction of the The New SLC isn’t the only building underway on the Salt Lake City International Airport Campus. Crews are busy on the east side of the airport building a new facility for Atlantic Aviation.

Atlantic Aviation—one of two Fixed Based Operators (FBO) at SLC—is building a new terminal and two new hangars. FBO’s provide services for private aircraft, such as fueling, parking, tie-down service and maintenance.

Atlantic entered the Salt Lake market in December 2015 and began ramp renovations prior to opening for business. In September 2016, Atlantic Air began construction on its $30 million project, which consists of the new hangars and terminal. The hangars—which will give Atlantic a total of four—are scheduled to open fall 2017 and the terminal is scheduled to open in February.
