Construction of the The New SLC isn’t the only building underway on the Salt Lake City International Airport Campus. Crews are busy on the east side of the airport building a new facility for Atlantic Aviation. Atlantic Aviation—one of two Fixed Based Operators (FBO) at SLC—is building a new terminal and two new hangars. FBO’s provide services for private aircraft, such as fueling, parking, tie-down service and maintenance. Atlantic entered the Salt Lake market in December 2015 and began ramp renovations prior to opening for business. In September 2016, Atlantic Air began construction on its $30 million project, which consists of the new hangars and terminal. The hangars—which will give Atlantic a total of four—are scheduled to open fall 2017 and the terminal is scheduled to open in February.
What does it take to build The New SLC parking garage? Construction workers are installing 672 concrete columns that are 18-ft. tall and 4 by 4 ft. in diameter. Each column reinforcement cage takes 50 hours to assemble and can weigh up to 15,000 lbs. It takes about 11 cubic yards of 7,000 psi concrete to construct each column. The result will be a five-level parking garage with 3,600 stalls, which is more than twice as many stalls as in the current parking structure. For more information go to slcairport.com/thenewslc
Airport Council International (ACI) has announced SLC is one of five airports worldwide inducted into the 2017 ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence. The honor recognizes those airports which, in the opinion of the passengers who participated in ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Surveys, have consistently delivered excellence in customer service. The ACI ASQ Survey measures passengers’ appraisal of 34 key performance indicators on the day they travel, allowing airports to get an accurate picture of traveler sentiment. ASQ has been designed for airports of all sizes seeking to measure their passenger service performance and to benchmark it against other similarly sized airports with the overarching objective of offering more effective, efficient and profitable ways to serve the flying public. http://bit.ly/2h6HvMd
