This morning, Airport Volunteer Gale Pendergraph was awarded a NC Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. This highly competitive and prestigious award honors the true spirit of volunteerism in North Carolina by recognizing individuals, groups and businesses that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service.
Gale was one of only three individuals and one company selected from Mecklenburg County for this honor. While the Airport was his major nominator, representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank and Charlotte Symphony attended the breakfast in support of Gale and his volunteer accomplishments.
Gale has served as an Airport Volunteer for 10 years. During the past year, Gale has donated 325 hours of his time (double the average volunteer) and provided direct assistance to 12,310 people. Over the past decade, he has donated 2,777 hours of his time and helped 92,695 confused and lost passengers traveling through the Airport. His commitment to the program shines through like the bright yellow uniform shirt he wears. Gale’s capacity to serve is tremendous. Not only is he a model volunteer for our organization, but he is a leader for many others, including the Second Harvest Food Bank, Charlotte Symphony, American Red Cross (he has donated more than 169 gallons of blood throughout his life), the Dilworth Neighborhood Association, his church, and the Mecklenburg Board of Elections during election season. #NationalVolunteerWeek
