Today the UK's first digital air traffic control tower that will be in place by 2019 was announced. Here are a few images... #LCY

Phill Holmes - I wonder how many ATCOs will pick up the Aldis lamp when a pilot has a radio failure.
Jack Schmitt - If you want to lose customers, carry on with this crazy idea. As soon as you do this, you will go from being one of my favourite airports to one that I will NEVER fly into again. They are contemplating doing this where I live here in the Shetland Isles with one on the Scottish Mainland - we'll fight against it because a digital camera image can NEVER replace folk on the ground aka in a LOCAL airport control tower.

How will the digital air traffic control tower actually work? #LondonCityAirport? #LCY

Jack Schmitt - BADLY.
Justin Biscoe - all your flight information is shared with isis, controlled by people in a foreign country, depends on the internet (which as we know is reliable enough to trust lives to), but we have saved a couple of dollars, well done us

Jack Schmitt - You should be done under advertising standards for saying it enhances the efficiency and safety of operations. You want to lose customers, crack on with this insane idea. I, for one, won't fly into London City once you have this.

David Conroy - Last year a gas cannister was let off inside the Airport leading to the evacuation of the Airport & no one has been held responsible for it. Black Lives Matter (ironic no black people were involved) got onto the RUNWAY last year & closed the Airport for over 6 hours. It's a license for terrorists to cause Bedlam and Chaos in a small residential area. They have hacked into the "Pentagons Computer" & rigged the American Presidential Election. What makes you so sure that you can stop them? http://www.telegraph...emical-incident/

Harry Sysum - Well spotted Paul. What if the net goes down a power outage a bomb threat a panel malfunction? all those miles away you are working blind with peoples lives at risk. I marvel at some technology but not this insanity.
Morgan Sathasivam - Purely saying improves operations isn't very specific and not convincing .... surely none of these "operational" improvements outweighs the advantages of having air traffic controllers on site and more importantly safety
3 days ago
Andy Barnett - I opened the comments to read people forming opinions based on this article or article title alone, having not researched anything further about the technology. I was not disappointed.
Justin Biscoe - come on tories, farm this out to india, they can do it for far less! put them in a phone queue
3 days ago
Mark Isherwood - I think your confusing air traffic control with ground movements, for all but the last minute of a landing the plane is not visible and they use radar to mange plane position and movements.
David Barnshaw - Hmmm-don't like the sound of this one-too many things could go wrong...

Roy Davies - Alright until the fuse blows

David Harrison - Uuhm....not too sure about the wisdom of relying solely on cameras for this critical task?

Paul Logan - Omg what idiot signed this off. In light of this weeks Internet ransom ware hacks, no way can digital images be trusted over the human eye 😱
