News release: From Eastern Airways:

Wednesday 15 March 2017

EASTERN AIRWAYS INTRODUCES WEEKEND ISLE OF MAN FLIGHTS FOR TT

Eastern Airways has introduced weekend flights during the TT festival period to meet high demand to and from the Isle of Man.

The UK regional airline, which started routes from the Isle of Man to Belfast City and Newcastle on Monday this week, has now added weekend flights for 27th and 28th May, 3rd and 4th June and 10th and 11th June 2017.

On Sunday the airline moved quickly to secure the future of routes to Belfast City and Newcastle from the Isle of Man, following Citywing’s liquidation, to provide a continuation of daily weekday services from the island.

Flights to Belfast City will depart from the Isle of Man on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.05am arriving in Belfast at 11.45am. Weekend flights leave Belfast City at 12.15pm landing in the Isle of Man at 12.55pm.

Weekend services to Newcastle leave the Isle of Man at 1.25pm, arriving in Newcastle at 2.25pm. From Newcastle flights depart at 9.35am, arriving in the Isle of Man at 10.35am.

Fares on both routes start from £59 one way, including taxes and charges and are bookable via http://www.easternairways.com , calling Eastern Airways on 08703 669100 or through your local travel agent.

Flights are operated on a 29-seat Jetstream 41 aircraft and the airline provides complimentary drinks on board.

Mathew Herzberg, Head of Commercial for Eastern Airways, said: “Since moving quickly over the weekend to provide a continuation of the Belfast City and Newcastle routes, we have introduced three weekends of flights during the TT races, in response to high demand. The TT is a fantastic spectacle and we’ve added these extra weekend flights so people don’t miss out, but we do advise they book early as other flights are filling up fast.”

Ann Reynolds, Director of Ports, Isle of Man Airport, said: “Eastern Airways has made a great start with their return to operating scheduled services to and from the Isle of Man. Announcing weekend flights for the TT fortnight will be met with relief for those passengers who just do not want to miss out on one of the most important events of the year.”

Passengers travelling with Eastern Airways are not charged for check-in, baggage or choice of seat. Hold baggage allowance is 15kg per person and hand luggage allowance is 10kg per person. Those with fully flexible tickets are entitled to 2x 23kg hold bags. Check-in opens 90 minutes before the flight with check-in closing just 30 minutes before the departure time.

Eastern Airways has been operating for 19 years and previously operated a number of routes from the Isle of Man between 2004 and 2009. The airline has two Embraer 170 and three Embraer 145 jets in its fleet, as well as nine Saab 2000s and is the largest operator in the world of Jetstream 41 aircraft with 17.

Michael Brown - As far as I can tell, some of these flights WERE ALREADY SOLD OUT DAYS BEFORE THIS PRESS RELEASE WAS POSTED! I had a reservation with Citywing. By the time I was notified that Eastern was taking over the route and I needed to book seats with Eastern, they were sold out. My girlfriend & I are coming from overseas to see the TT races as part of a vacation and this really throws a wrench in our plans Why would a replacement airline come in and start selling seats without giving ANY notification or preference to customers who had already booked with Citywing?? I don't know how many other customers are now scrambling around like I am, faced with extra lodging & transport costs and either a day less of racing, or a day somewhere else we planned to be. Eastern could put a larger plane on this route, or extra flights, but they are taking so long to decide that I'll probably have to book something else on another day. I don't know why it's a difficult decision - the original flight sold out in 24 hours! I booked through Manx Flights, who were so slow to notify me of the situation that I'm in this mess. All they say they can do is book another flight for MUCH more $, or on another day. I guess the TT races are just so popular that no-one involved needs to be bothered with customer support.

Mike Taylor - I thought this was too good to be true. Just looked at flights from Newcastle to the Island for my 11 year old son and I. Flying over on Saturday 3rd, returning Sunday the 4th. Cost virtually £800!

Good Morning! Just a reminder that our existing Pelican Pedestrian Crossing is getting replaced with a Puffin Pedestrian Crossing at our access road as you exit off the main roundabout towards the airport. Works will commence after 0930 this morning (13/3/17). The works are expected to last 3 weeks. We hope there isn't too much disruption caused by these works. Please bear this in mind when travelling to the airport for the next 3 weeks. Thank you!

Karen Angela - What is so wrong with the original Zebra Crossings!
Jon Wornham - I also couldn't believe that it would take three weeks. Looked it up in the Manx Highway Code and the only differance seems to be the actual traffic light sequence (no flashing amber), removal of the red/green man pedestrian advice lights and replacement of the control boxes with new ones. I would have given it a few hours, or maybe a whole day to be generous!

Pete Quirk - The government has no chance of avoiding bankruptcy in2020 with this quality of intelligent decision making. You couldn't make it up. 3 weeks !!!

Sue Nicol - What are they doing that needs three weeks? Digging with teaspoons, hand polished gravel, cables encased in silk from lesser spotted Chinese caterpillars 🐛? Or are they using live puffins? I'm intrigued!

Michael Allen - In all the years this crossing has been in place I have never seen it being used, a crossing on the main road at the main entrance would serve a more useful purpose.

Jonathan Stanfield - At a price of "from" £99 one way for a 30 minute flight when other carriers to Liverpool and Gatwick charge from £24.95 it feels that travellers are being exploited. A longer process seeking another carrier would have been preferable to such expensive flights.

Trevor Bougourd - Dear Isle of Man Airport, I have received an email from Citiwing Reservations this evening forwarding a copy of my booking for a flight in April and saying:PLEASE NOTE: Eastern Airways will commence Isle of Man to Belfast City and Newcastle services wef 13 March 17. please contact http://www.easternairways.com DOES THIS MEAN THAT EASTERN ARE HONOURING THE FLIGHT TICKET?????

Claire Megan - Why have my comments being removed? Deleting comments will not take back people's reactions to this ludicrous statement.

Alana Faragher - Taking down previous posts won't make people any less angry..... I don't know how busy the Newcastle flights were having never taken them but as a frequent flier on the Belfast flight you are making it impossible for people to visit family and friends in NI! There are a lot of weekday commuters on the Isle of Man from Belfast - the times noted above (along with the astronomical price) make this impossible! Most people work Monday to Friday 9-5.... how are they meant to get home for a weekend?! Why would anyone from NI want to come to the IOM with prices and flight times like those stated above? I must say though - I look forward to watching the poor air hostesses trying to provide hot and cold drinks on a 20 minute flight though not sure if makes up for the £400 price tag that my husband and I will now have to pay (as well as the time off we have to take!)to visit my parents

Joanne Marie Milner - So cardiff to anglesey flights this week have transferable tickets from citywing to eastern. What about the rest of the flights???? If they take over the service they should have to take over the bookings. Effectively they are taking on citywing business by taking their route.

Tracey Bruce - What about Glasgow I have flights booked with citywing on 3rd April whats happening????

Samantha Campbell - Said it on the previous post before it was removed and I'll say it again. What an absolute joke and disgrace. This island is making it so difficult for people to travel back and forth to Belfast. Prices are ridiculous for such a short flight.

Please see below press release issued by CityWing.

As a result of Van Air losing their route licenses on Friday 24th February 2017, the company has found it difficult to source suitable viable aircraft to fulfil our contracts. The company has tried to offer a service whilst suffering considerable losses but these have proved unfortunately to be commercially unsustainable.

It is therefore with much sadness and deep regret that the Directors of Citywing Aviation Services Limited have had to take the difficult decision to close the company today and put the company into liquidation. This decision has not been taken lightly and has been made to protect creditors.

Flights on 11th March 2017 onwards have all been cancelled

We request that you do not turn up at the airports for your flights as there will be no one to assist.

A liquidator will be appointed and they will advise in due course on how to get a refund on your tickets.

There will also be guidance on the UK CAA website from Monday 13th March 2017.
https://www.caa.co.uk/home/

For those passengers on the Cardiff to Anglesey service, we have been advised that your Citywing tickets will be valid on train services out of Cardiff, and from stations between Bangor and Holyhead.

On behalf of all at Citywing, we all apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you all for your support over the last 4 years.
