Update: Our staff continues to work around the clock to restore full normal power and bring key operational systems back online. The Airport is operational and we are seeing continuous improvement.

Heat has been restored in the building and we have isolated the leaks experienced due to systems being offline for an extended period of time.

We would like to thank all staff, passengers, tenants and airline partners for their patience and support as we work to improve the situation. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Holly Baker - At the airport now and all seems good! :) I did have some issues with the entrance to long term parking (the first one, near the exit/pay stations) when I got here about 20 min ago. It thought it was spitting out a ticket, but it wasn't. Didn't have time to let anyone know as I had to catch my flight :) [didn't have any issues with the other entrance to long term parking]

As a result of the recent wind storm, the Terminal Building is presently operating under back-up emergency power provided by two emergency generators as well as reduced normal power.

The Airport Authority is reviewing all options to have heat and key operational systems restored as soon as possible.

An update will be provided when more information is available. http://bit.ly/2mzV3i9

Phil Earle - And then to top things off, the pipes burst over the check in counters because there wasn't any heat in the terminal! There is a reason people call it St. John's Amateur Airport!

St. John's International Airport
Since airport operations resumed yesterday after the snow storm, 21 flights have landed on the active runway (R34). The 21 flights included aircrafts of all sizes, from a Beech 1900 to a B767.

All information regarding runway conditions was well communicated to airlines and the active runway has remained in excellent condition since opening.

The situation with AC694 is airline-specific as ultimately, it is the pilot and crew of an aircraft that decides whether it will land during flight operations.

Bethany Dawe - So you're saying the Runway for our flight was 100% clear and ready for our landing?!?! Our Pilot indicated that at that point, the runway had not even been touched!!!! I find it difficult to comprehend if either one of you is lying, but in MY opinion, it would appear that the airport authority are the ones who dropped the ball here!

Carlene Dyer Shea - I've been in the same situation, just this past December I was on my 3rd round of trying to land in St. John's, once we were close enough to count the runway lights but got re-routed due to things beyond anyone's control, A lady with 3 kids actually cried she was frustrated but these things happen, I did not think it was news worthy as I don't think this is, it happens whether we like it or not!

Thank-you to our hardworking and experienced Winter Operations team who have been working around the clock over the last few days to get the Airport ready for safe flight operations as soon as possible after this massive snow storm.

By the end of the day, the Airport will have received approx. 330cm of snow this winter, equivalent to the avg. amount received in an entire season in years passed.

We are sending a huge, winter storm-sized THANK YOU to our team.
